When ever you are sitting in your recliner chair you want to know you are safe and for most of us that means knowing that our fire alarm system works properly but how many of us think of possibilities of being affected by carbon monoxide?
If you have any sort of product that gives off heat like a gas fire or a central heating boiler or even an oil fired burner then you could be in danger of suffering from carbon monoxide poisoning and whilst it might not kill you straight away but it can make you ill. Small amounts of carbon monoxide (CO) can give you flu like symptoms to start with and then get progressively worse over a period of time. There are 6 main things to look out for, headaches, dizziness, nausea, breathlessness, collapsing and loss of consciousness.
If you feel any of these sort of problems whilst at home but when you go out to work or shopping away from home and you start to feel better then it is a strong possibility you have a gas leak however slight that is causing you to suffer, a lot of the symptoms are similar to as I said before, flu or even food poisoning or just simply being tired but it needs checking out.
It would be very sensible to fit in every room of your home a Carbon Monoxide detector but ensure that it is one that gives off and audible warning as well as a flashing light and make sure you fit at the sort of position the manufacturer recommends because if they are fitted to low then they will not work quickly enough carbon monoxide is lighter than the normal air in the room and so rises but if it continues to escape into the room it will eventually force all of the normal air out and you will die as a result!
If you fit a fire alarm then you should also fit a carbon monoxide alarm as well but as well as fitting them you must make sure that they are working properly and that means keeping them clean and also testing them regularly, not every six months or every blue moon or when you suddenly think about it but test them at least once a week and a friend of mine has come up with a slogan that will help us all and that is “Test it Tuesday” simple top say simple to remember and simple to do test your alarms every Tuesday save your life!
If you follow the advice in here you will be safe in your recliner chairs, after all you do not want to go to sleep in your recliner chair and not wake up do you? Be safe remember to ” Test it Tuesday”
