It is suddenly that time of year again when the doctor’s surgeries are exalting all of the patients on their lists over a certain age or with various medical problems to book appointments to have an anti flu virus inoculation.
It used to be just the elderly but now it is a much wider range of people thatĀ are offered the opportunity to call in and have their arms used for target practice by the nursing staff. Do you think that it actually helps? I know I have had flu jabs in recent years and have always been bad afterwards but perhaps it is just me but I do know that lots of people react in different ways.
However it is probably a very sensible precaution to take up the chance of having the actual flu jab it is more than likely going to prevent you from getting a really bad dose of influenza during this coming winter and for any one who already has chest or breathingĀ problems or heart conditions then it is almost a forgone conclusion that having the flu jab is a must!
I was due to have my flu jab next week but now instead I am going to a pre-op assessment ready to have a new hip fitted at the end of October so the Doctors will not get the chance to inject me yet but no doubt they will want to once I am out of hospital on the road to recovery!
Other people are not so lucky in the body part replacement and if you have emphysema or any other bad chest complaint such as sleep apnoea then you would be well advised to take up any offer you may get for the flu jab because whatever slight side effect you may get you will feel much better in the long run as a result.
Remember if you are not yet eligible for the flu jab on the NHS but want to still protect yourself a lot of the pharmacies will also be able to do it for you but with a charge.
Whatever you do this year if you are eligible then make sure you get the safety of the flu jab as soon as you can
