Which is the best type of recliner chair for you.

Many years ago as a young salesman I worked for Parker Knoll when they introduced the first recliner chair in the UK and most of us working for them were very sceptical of it being a success, oh how wrong we were.

Now though there are so many different different versions of recliner chairs to choose from;

• Standard manual recliner chairs have been around since those early days in the 1960’s and the actions have not changed since, basically to recline the chair you need to push against the back rest. This action releases the footrest and allows it to come up in conjunction with the back so that your legs are supported as you start to recline. The difficulty that comes for people with limited movement normally comes from having to use their legs to push the footrest back into its locked position, failure to do that properly can make getting out of the chair very difficult.
• Electric recliner chairs work on the same principal as the manual chair except that the hard work is removed! all the user needs to do is press the button on the handset to activate the movement of the chair and obviously this eliminates andy problems of getting the footrest back into its closed position so that getting in and out of the chair is very easy.
• Dual motor electric recliner chairs The next stage on it is so much better than the single motor style referred to above, with two separate motors you can raise your feet without having to move the back rest which means that your eye level is at the normal position and allows you to read or watch television easily. Then of course you can recline the back rest when you have had enough of the television! Again it is so easy to return the back and footrests to their normal positions to allow you to stand up.
• Riser recliner chairs have dramatically changed the situation for people with medical problems that restrict their movements and the ability to stand, again there are two different styles of riser recliners, either the single motor which as the same sort of action as a normal electric recliner chair but the added benefit of taking you to a standing position gently and quietly in a smooth operation. By leaving the chair in its up right position you can return to it when ready and just press the button the hand set and this will take you down to a sitting position and then as you need on to a reclined place that is most comfortable for you. The dual motor version will do all of that and more giving you the same possibility of being able to raise you feet without moving the back rest.

Recliner chairs have come a long way since those days back in 1961 or 1962 when as a very very young man I first saw their introduction in to the furniture trade, who will ever forget the Norton recliner chair, model number PK30!
