Can a new adjustable bed save you money?

None of us like spending money but I believe that this week I have seen an adjustable bed that can long term save you money!

On Tuesday of this week I visited the National Bed Federation trade show which is now in its third successful year at Telford.  For me to get there is difficult having had to return my driving licence because of my Sleep Apnoea, but a train journey should have been fairly easy,.

Of course the weather interfered and because of the heavy rain and flooding on certain parts of the line we had to miss out on part of the  journey through Crewe. eventually I arrived at Telford and a short taxi journey soon had me at the exhibition centre. All of the leading UK manufacturers displayed their ranges there, some of them just names now, having gone into liquidation and bought out in pre pack arrangements still the public will still recognise hippos and the like.

My arthritis means that I know the problems of trying to sleep when your joints actually become more inflamed because of lack of movement, it is so frustrating and that is why an adjustable bed can be a real help. The possibility of being able to move your joints and your whole body by simply pushing a button is really fantastic and can take a lot of pressure away from the affected joints even if only for a little while. After all those of us who struggle with the problems of arthritis know there is no real cure  just degrees of control.

However adjustable beds have been with us for some time now but at the trade show I have just attended one of the manufacturers has just introduced a product that combines the best of three products, an adjustable bed, a swivel chair and a riser recliner chair. Looking very much like a normal bed this model can lay you down to sleep or raise you head or knees or feet but the next part is the fantastic ‘bit’. By pressing another button on a separate hand set the bed brings the back up and once the controls recognise that you are in the correct position the bed swivels round so that you are now sitting with your feet point to the side of the bed.

Once you have got to that point the part of the bed that has now become a foot rest lowers down so that you are in a normal sitting position, if you then carry on holding the button the unit will help you rise to  a standing position! This fantastic unit (so much more than  just a bed) is an ideal item for people with real disabilities or mobility problems such a stroke sufferers who have lost use of part of their body.

Whilst it will not be an inexpensive item to buy if you think of the cost of moving into a nursing home this bed will pay for itself in less than 12 months if you work out the fees of such places. The real beauty though is how much easier it will be for people to be able to stay in their own homes because this bed will make the job of caring for some one so much easier.

The heading of this article is can a new adjustable bed save you money? I think the answer is a resounding YES! More details of this and other products I saw at the show will follow, but I am after all a little old man now and I need time to recover from my day out!
