How big do you need your adjustable beds to be?

For most people buying an adjustable bed is because some one has developed a long term illness and so needs to change their sleeping habits, occasionally though it is possible that people will buy an adjustable bed just because they want to be able to sit up an watch television or to read  a book or their kindle.

When people buy double or king  size adjustable beds they tend to forget that they will have 2 single beds with separate actions linked together and so need different bed clothes but at least they can have their own controls and be up or down separately.

However a single person using an adjustable bed would normally buy a 2’6″ or 3’0″ wide set which is fine but it tends to be forgotten that there is available a 3’6″ width classed as a large single adjustable bed which gives far more room for anyone using such a bed specially if for any reason they need to spend a considerable amount of time in there through illness or after an operation.

There is at  present only one manufacturer in the UK who offers this size but the beauty is that they manufacturer it with many options and choices of mattress types. You can select from pocket sprung mattresses which are double sided and so can be turned over and around from head to foot to prolong the life of the padding and the mattress. As well you will find pocket sprung mattresses that also have memory foam in them, these then are single sided as the memory foam is so resilient that it does not need to be turned over.

Then there are combinations of memory foam and reflex foam mattresses for those who like something firmer or even pure latex foam which is such  a wonderful product. However if you are going to be spending a considerable amount of time in your adjustable bed it is best to contemplate memory foam as it will help to spread the weight more evenly and does not create any bed sores.

A 3’6″ wide adjustable bed is an ideal size to use and if it is for a ‘home nursing’ situation why not consider having it made on legs so that you can get closer to the ‘patient’ when you need to  attend to them.
