In recent years the swivel recliner chair has become more and more available with a wide range of different models offered.
This type of chair has been a progression from the use of swivel chairs in offices and they have been transformed in design to fit in to the home.
There are many different styles, colours and fabrics to choose including soft clothes, imitation leathers, suede’s and real leather, so there will be something to fit into any room in any home.
There are different types of reclining actions for these chairs, starting from a ‘click action’ which has four positions to select from and the ‘click action’ lever is situated discreetly under one of the arms. Once you pull up on this little lever the back of the chair is released and as you push back it will lock in to the first spot and if you either hold the lever up or just release it one step at a time you will be able to select the position which is most comfortable for you.
All of these swivel recliner chairs, unlike their office counter parts, come complete with matching foot stools, so as you press your click action lever and the back reclines you feet will be comfortably supported on your footstool.
If you do not like the idea of the click action the other alternative is a pressure release where you have a knob that you tighten or release to suit your body weight, so for someone that is heavier, they would have the knob reasonably tight because they would have the strength and body weight to push against it, where as a lighter person would need the tension to be less to allow them to push back, after all you do not want to wear yourself out trying to get comfortable do you.
The beauty of the swivel recliner chair is that they do exactly what you need from them, they will swivel a full 360 degrees so you can if you wish follow someone around as they move, obviously you won’t be able to swivel around with your feet on the footstool. If you want to recline though, the footstool will be there to make you 100% comfortable.
There are obviously different styles to choose from and that applies to the legs of the chairs as well. Some come with a, what is called, ‘star base’ which is five strong laminated legs that are bent to shape and give a stability to the chair. The matching footstool will normally have four legs styled the same way, only four because of the smaller base area.
Other models will have the base covered in matching material to the chair; these are normally a solid circular base and look very attractive.
As well as those mentioned above, you will also find some of the chairs and footstools that have circular bases, that come in a wood finish and colour that will match to your existing furniture.
The covers available are normally selected to make the best of each particular model and so you will find a certain chair is offered in different shades of a soft cloth, whilst another models could come in a full leather covering.
As well as full leather covering, you will see that some chairs have what is known as ‘leather match’, this is a combination using real leather on the seat back and arms, principally the areas you sit on and touch, whilst the outside of the arms and the back of the chair are covered in a leather look alike which is colour matched to the leather. This obviously saves money without detracting from the chair at all.
Some models are available in either PU or leather substitute all over and are obviously less expensive than the full leather covered ones, but are still very hard wearing and so easy to keep clean.
Just a little thought if you do decide on a chair that has leather on it or is leather all over then do not forget to get some leather cream, this helps to keep the leather subtle and stops it from drying out and eventually cracking. Perhaps more importantly, if you have your central heating on as this will reduce the moisture in the atmosphere and so you need to help your lovely leather chair from getting all dried and wrinkly like me!
As well as the swivel recliner chairs I have talked about, there are also available a certain number of swivel recliner chairs that have massage units and heat pads built into them. These normally have a vibration unit that will run up and down your back and also works in the seat area and can also be active in the footstool as well.
The control unit that comes with them will allow you to vary the area that the massage unit is working on, so that you can perhaps stop it in the shoulder area or in the lower lumber area or even in the seat to massage your thighs. You can of course have it on an automatic setting where it ripples up and down the length of your body. Whichever setting you choose you can also increase or decrease the intensity of the massage.
It is very good to also enjoy the benefit of the gentle relaxation that the heat pad will provide.
There are so many swivel recliner chairs to choose from and so many different colours and covers and fabrics but there will I am sure be one that is just right for you.
Normally these chairs are delivered to you in a box and may require a certain amount of home assembly but all come with all the tools needed, normally just an “Allen key” and full clear instructions.
