Life is so complex under the most normal circumstances, but if you live in care and need incontinence pads it can be so confusing!
Together with the actual cost of your care home or nursing home there are other things to take into account, one of them is the cost of something so simple but to many people so important, incontinence pads! Do you realise that if your home buys these on your behalf that they must pay the price that includes VAT.
As most homes are not VAT registered that means if they pass the cost on you could be paying a whopping 20% extra than you need to! HM Revenue & Customs allow individuals to be able to purchase these so important items on a VAT exempt basis but if you get the home to purchase on your behalf they must pay VAT so that means £20 extra on every £100 you spend on these items.
Isn’t it so frustrating that you need to work out all of these things as you get older, none of us wont to pay more to the exchequer than is absolutely necessary do we so check out with the home you are staying in to make sure that they are being cost effective on your behalf.
It may well be in their interest to actually purchase for you as an individual rather than as the nursing or care home, think about it and perhaps have a word with the Matron or Manager or Manageress of the home to see what they think, you never know they may be grateful if you can suggest a cost saving to them.
When you do purchase your incontinence pads or associated items make sure you are using a product you know you can rely on and those with the ageuk name to them are some of the finest and have the backing and recognition of this leading charity.
