When I first started coming to Llandudno many years ago as a salesman for a furniture company I was always aware of the number of elderly and disabled people about in wheelchairs. I imagine they all had Restwell recliner chairs at home but wonder if the hotel of their choice provided them as well.
It was obvious to me then just how attractive a town it was and actually still is, the main thing though is the way the town lays between the two hills, the Great Orme and the Little Orme as they are known. Between them though is this virtually flat town that has been so well managed over the years that it is still attractive to all ages.
For the elderly though and those with disabilities it is even more welcoming as it is so easy to get about and it has such a great array of hotels bed and breakfast venues and even apartments you can rent for a holiday period.
The hotels range from AA rated right through to 4 star but all of them understand the problems of people with age and disability related problems.
Most hotels have rooms available for the disabled and once you have arrived and settled in you find there is just so much to do in Llandudno itself and also easily in the surrounding areas.
The town has long associations with Lewis Carroll and the wonderful tale of Alice in wonderland and this year wooden carvings have been commissioned and placed strategically around the area and they make wonderful viewing and great items to have you picture taken with!
With a great exhibition and conference centre couple to the theatre at Venue Cymru there is so much to do and always a show to entertain you in the evenings after you have eaten in your hotel or one of the may restaurants or pubs with food around the town. The choice is available to you is enormous.
Whilst here in Llandudno we pride ourselves on having a better climate than most other areas is still some times rains, however it is not a problem as we have a fine array of shops and a new shopping area called Parc Llandudno where you will find all of the leading stores. In the centre of town is a large M&S which is currently being totally revamped.
If shopping is not your style of enjoyment then we have the Mostyn Oriel Gallery for those art lovers with exhibitions that change regularly. As well that there is Llandudno Museum in Gloddaeth Street where you will be able to discover the history of the town right back to when the Romans were here!
A walk along the finest Welsh pier can be a real breath of fresh air open your lungs and enjoy the wonderful views, there is also a bar at the far end to revive you for the journey back.
Of course you should if possible try out the tramway to take you right to the top of the Great Orme so that you can experience the incredible views across to Puffin Island and on to Angelsey with the wonderful Snowdonia mountain range clearly visible to the left of the islands.
If somehow you mange to feel the need to escape the joys of the town for a day it is easy to take a train from the town station down to the wonderful village of Betws Y Coed, known for its waterfalls and scenery and as the gateway to Snowdonia. It is of course on the historic coaching route that is the A5.
After your busy days it will be so good to return to your hotel and relax you will be certain to sleep well however young or old you are, however fit or whatever your disabilities might be a holiday in Llandudno will leave you feeling on top of the world!
