A recent report in the United States talked of how the study that had been undertaken proved that sleep deprivation in mid life can really affect the health of people as they move into old age.

There are many reasons as to why your sleep can be disturbed and your sleep duration shortened, just life style can affect you, if you are leading a full and busy life and need to go to bed late and then rise early it is possible that you are getting far less than the normal sort of eight hour period recommended. Whilst in early life and your days up to say 50 this is easy to cope with it can effect your heart and brain in ways you don’t realise but that can possibly lead to strokes or heart disease and even breathing problems later.

Another majorĀ  problem is snoring and whilst most of it will snore at sometime during a sleep period it is those with a heavy snoring pattern or one in which they snore and then suddenly stop and then gasp for breath. This is caused by a problem called sleep apnoea and it can be a real problem.if it is not controlled, unfortunately sleep apnoea can not be cured. Those people who suffer from sleep apnoea can without help find themselves dropping off to sleep at any time without any warning this obviously can lead to all sorts of accidents especially if driving. The long term damage to the brain heart or lungs as well but more importantly it can disturb your sleep in your earlier years which can damage your health much later on.

Various things can help to get a better nights sleep, make sure that your bed room is not too warm you will sleep better in a cooler situation, do not watch television or use your computer in bed as these can stimulate the brain at a time when you should be relaxing it, even reading in bed is not the best of ideas. Just keep your bedroom for sleeping after that’s mainly what it should before.

Drinking coffee or alcohol in the evening can disturb your sleep pattern and whilst it might be alright to partake occasionally you should not do it on a regular basis.

If you are really struggling to get consistently good sleep it might be worth considering an adjustable bed it can help by allowing you to easily change your sleeping position and these are so comfortable and not just for people with disabilities, worth looking at
